Are you looking for a cute Mother’s Day flower craft?  Well, don’t stress.  I got you, girl.  Here are two super simple – but super cute – Mother’s Day flower crafts.  You can turn them into cards, framed pictures, or the background for poems/handprints by the kiddos.  I made these cards using various paper punches, but you can easily cut these shapes out by hand or even use those big foam shapes bulk bag that’s always at the Crafty Trinity (Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, and Joanne’s).

Mother’s Day Flower Craft #1 – Card made with circle punches Supplies:

  • glue tape or a glue stick
  • scissors
  • card stock for the card
  • 3 different sized circles, in different shades of the same color.  You will need 3 circles to make one flower, so if you are making 3 different flowers, you will need a total of 9 circles.
  • leaf shapes in various shades of green
  • Happy Mother’s Day banner that can be cut out and glued to the card.  You can find my free template for this here.
  • mini foam squares, optional — I used glue on the first and second circles of the flower, but used a foam square on the mini circle in the center of the flower to achieve that 3D look.

Mother’s Day Flower Craft #2 – Card made with heart punches

Supplies:

  • glue tape or a glue stick
  • scissors
  • card stock for the card
  • 2 different sized hearts, in different shades of the same color.  You need 12 hearts to make one flower. I used 2 different sized heart punches for my flowers.
  • tiny strip of green paper – 1 or 2 inches long and half an inch wide – to make the center of the flower
  • Happy Mother’s Day banner that can be cut out and glued to the card.  You can find my free template for this here.
  • mini foam squares, optional — I used glue on the bottom layer of hearts to secure them to the card, but used mini foam shapes on the second and third layer of hearts to achieve that 3-D look.

How to Craft This Card:

First, cut out the Mother’s Day banner from my template. Then, cut (or punch) out all your heart shapes.  I used two different sizes of heart punches for each flower – 8 X 1.5″ hearts and 4 X 5/8″ hearts. I also used a darker shade of card stock for the bottom layer of hearts, a medium shade for the middle layer and a lighter shade for the tiny hearts on top.  Then, I took that strip of green paper and cut super tiny strips into the paper about halfway through.  Then, I rolled the paper as tightly as I could, and when I got to the end of the paper, I glued that piece to the roll.  Now it looks like the center of a flower, or the pistil.  Set aside.  Start building your flower by gluing the first layer of 4 hearts on your card stock card as if they were four leaf clovers.  The hearts should all be touching or almost touching each other.  Fold the middle layer of 4 hearts in half.  Now adhere them to the bottom layer of hearts in a staggered pattern so you can see the bottom hearts peeking out.  I chose to add mini foam squares for the middle and top layers of hearts so they stand out a little, and it gives the flower a nice 3D look, which I like.  Last, fold the mini hearts in half and use mini foam squares to adhere them to the middle layer of hearts, also in a staggered pattern.  In the center of your flower, use glue or a foam square to adhere your green rolled paper, the pistil, so the strip side that you cut into is facing up.  Repeat this process for however many flowers you want to decorate with…and you’re done!

Pretty easy, huh?  I think these flower crafts are perfect for Mother’s Day. I mean, what mom doesn’t like seeing bright cheerful flowers on her special day?  Let me know how you liked these crafts in the comments.  If you’ve seen a DIY card and don’t know how to make it, send me a link!  Maybe I can make it for my next tutorial. 🙂
