Galentines Day Cards - Paper Source Product Review
Why Galentines Day? And why Galentines Day Cards?
Well, Valentine’s isn’t always about that special someone…sometimes it’s about those people that were there for you in between all those *special* someones: your girlssssssss.
The ones who order a pint of Ben and Jerry’s for you when your boyfriend breaks up with you on Facebook. The ones who tell you when that Anthro dress you thought was cute, makes you look like a 1980’s math teacher. The ones who discreetly, but sternly tell you, “you can’t pull off that lipstick”.
Enter: Galentines Day. So here is a *sweet* way to show your girlfriends how much you care about them – with a donut Galentine’s Day card. You know what they say – Donuts before those nuts. Ok, I just made that up. But I thought it was pretty good.
This Galentines Day card idea is actually part of Paper Source’s Donut Friends Craft Kit and are meant to be strung with twine and made into a banner. But instead, I made them into Galentines Day cards, and even made a mini-donut return address label from the leftover supplies. So grab your cup of yumm, a sweet treat (a donut, mayhaps?) and keep reading to find out how you can do the same. The best part? You can knock these out while watching the latest episode of And Just Like That. No, it’s not as good as SATC. It never will be. Stop hoping. But it’s a good watch-and-craft show.

Otherwise, keep reading below to find out how you can make your own Galentines Day card.

One of the best things I like about these Galentine’s Day cards is that you don’t need that many crafty supplies. All you really need is a glue stick and scissors. If you want to make things a bit easier on yourself, you can also pick up some glue tape like this Tombow and Micro Glue Dots.
List of supplies:
- Paper Source’s Donut Friends Kit
- Scissors
- Glue Stick
Optional (but makes things a lot easier):
To make the return address labels:
- Donut Address Labels and Banners Template
- printer
- 5/8 Mini Circle Punch
- leftover kraft paper from your donuts
- leftover sprinkles
- glue
- scissors
- square kraft envelopes – these are the ones I picked up from Paper Source because they match the donuts perfectly
Crafting Your Donuts:
The first thing you’ll need to do (as with almost all craft kits) is to punch out all of your shapes. Paper Source has given you quite a few different pieces in this Donut Craft Kit. You have two different colors for your donut: kraft (which I guess is vanilla) and chocolate. For the icing on top, you have 7
different flavors — mint, lemon, lavender, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and hot pink? I don’t know what flavor hot pink is.
For each color, they’ve given you two different icing tops as well as a drizzle of icing. You’ll use this icing drizzle as decoration along with two other pieces.
The last things to punch out are your confetti sprinkles as well as the rectangular sprinkles. The rectangular sprinkles come in perforated half sheets that have pre-cut fringes. I’ll show you how to make those sprinkles in just a sec.

As you can see from the image above, these are the three different decorations that you can add on top of the icing on your donut. Pretty cool, right? You can mix and match, only do one type of decoration, do a rainbow – – whatever you want! Paper Source gave you a bunch of inspiration on the front of the craft kit, and here’s how I decorated mine:

So, let’s start by assembling a donut using the icing top, drizzle and rectangle sprinkles.

The only decoration that I haven’t used are the polka dotted sprinkles. These are super easy, and again, you can totally use a glue stick for this as well. But I prefer Micro Glue Dots. I found that they’re the perfect size for these sprinkles, and not to mention, you won’t have sticky fingers after you’re done.
If you haven’t used Glue Dots before, they’re really easy. You’re just going to take your roll out of the box, and unwind the parchment. Take one of your confetti sprinkles and press it on top of a glue dot. Gently peel away the sprinkle and the glue dot will peel away with it. Then, stick it to your donut!
The great thing about this kit is that you can be as creative as you want with your Galentines Day Cards. These donuts will be your unique creations so have fun with it. There’s no right or wrong way to craft here.
Crafting the Eyes:

Speaking of fun, Paper Source included a bunch of googly eyes to be adhered to the donuts. But since I’m using these as Galentines Day Cards, I wanted the cards to be flat so I could mail them in a regular envelope. Since I can’t have anything stick out from the card (like googly eyes), but still wanted the donuts to have some character, I decided to make my own eyes.
I used brown and blue leftover polka dot sprinkles for the pupils, and used my 5/8 inch circle punch for the actual eye. You’ll have more than enough white paper leftover from the icing to punch your eyes out. To secure the pupil and the eye together, I used my Micro Glue Dots. Next, I glued the
completed eye to the back of my donut. The fun thing about this is that you can make the pupils as crazy (think Cookie Monster) or sophisticated (think Queen Elizabeth) as possible. Dealer’s choice.
In addition to the eyes, something else I thought would be fun to add a message. Typically, when you open a card you see some kind of printed message. In this case, I thought it would be fun to make that message into a donut pun and added some cute banners as well. Don’t worry — you don’t have to come up with these yourself. You can find those banners and donut puns for FREE in my Donut Address Labels and Banners Template.
Here’s some close ups of those DONUT puns —

These are what my completed donut backs look like on my Galentines Day Cards.

Mini Donut Return Address Labels:

This kit gives you a TON of leftover supplies. (In fact, if you trace the donut shape and icing topper to make more, you would have enough leftover decoration pieces to create a dozen more donuts, easy.) Since I had exactly 12 colored circles left over from the middle of my icing, I thought, why not make a return address label that looks like a donut? The colored circles are your donut, the address label is the white icing, and the kraft colored circle in the middle simulates the hole in the middle of the donut. (My circle punch wasn’t deep enough to punch in the middle of my donut to make an actual hole, so I simulated one with kraft colored paper.)
Here’s what you’ll need — the 12 colored circles, leftover kraft paper from your donuts, a 5/8 inch mini circle punch, leftover sprinkles, glue, scissors, kraft colored envelopes, and the Donut Address Labels and Banners Template. This template has both address labels that are in a circle shape as well as some donut puns on banners. Once you download the template, you can enter your own address, change the font, etc.
Once your address has been entered, print the document. When you cut out the address labels, you don’t have to be precise and make it into a perfect circle. In fact, you want your icing to be wavy and uneven just like the icing you just assembled. Set the address label aside.
Now, using your mini circle punch, cut out one circle from your leftover kraft paper. This will serve as the middle of your donut. Now, it’s all about the assembly. Colored donut down first, then glue your icing on top, and then glue the kraft “hole”.
Decorating time! You can use your leftover confetti sprinkles or cut your fringe sprinkles super tiny to fit on top of the donut. Be sure not to cover up your address!
